DON'T BLAME THE DOG. TRAIN BETTER.

Tip of the day.... Assuming "he knows this" and will be able to perform that behavior in new environments, or for longer periods of time, or while he's farther away from you is a common mistake owners make.  They may get disappointed or frustrated with their dog or label him "stubborn".  It's a training error on our part.  It's not his fault-- he doesn't yet have enough practice in THAT environment, under those conditions.  Your dog is doing the best he can given the training you've given him, in the environment you've put him in.  When our dog is not successful we don't blame the dog (we don't blame anyone, actually)-- we realize that our training plan needs modifying and we get back to work.  It's not failure, it's valuable info.
