YOUR DOG'S VOCABULARY LIST

It's helpful to create a "vocabulary list" of cues you will use with your dog (and tape it to the refrigerator door!) so everyone in the household can be sure to use the same cues.  In addition, when you have someone else caring for your dog while you take a trip to Spain, for example, you can provide them with this list so your dog can have as much consistency as possible.  The WAY you say a cue (your intonation, the melody of how you say it) must also be consistent from person to person.  When we say "Better GO now" there is a certain sing-song pattern we always use.  Anyway, give some thought to what YOUR list will be with your dog, whether you have trained that behavior yet or not-- you can plan the cues now (but don't use them until the proper time in each training plan).  I am sharing the list I have for my dog if you would like to use any of it for your own list.  Right now I'm helping to train a puppy and we came up with a short list of Portuguese words to use as our cues (the owners are Portuguese).
